On 30 May 44, after being forced to leave the formation due to flak, Pilot
Lester J. Baer reduced speed and flew home at low altitude. Crash-Landed at Old
Buckenham, ENG, with only the right landing wheel down and receiving power from
only two engines. Had to land on the short alternative runway in a strong cross
wind because main runway was still blocked by the burning 41-28645. Left wing
tip dragged when the plane reduced speed and #1 propeller dug into the ground
off the runway, causing the plane to swing round viciously. Salvaged 31 May 44.
