My Father, Sgt. Glen Lander
(Engineer), and Crew 79 flew on WAR BRIDE (1 & 2)
and HAPPY WARRIOR (42-50587). There was an observer flying with crew 79 on this
mission. The observer was wounded, possibly by the same flak that caused the
damage which put WAR BRIDE off the runway when they
landed back at Halesworth. When she finally came to a stop the entire crew
bolted to safety then realized they had left the observer on the plane. Had to
go back and get him. Dad also said that that observer was the only one,
passenger or crew, who was ever wounded on any of WAR BRIDE's
missions.
