Contributor - Dick
Olson
Stationed at Torretto, Italy. My Father, Richard Olson (Co-Pilot), was shot down
near Caorle, Italy.
The plane was attacked by fifteen ME-109s, after leaving the
formation to return to base after losing an engine. In that ten
minute fight, the gunners shot down four fighters. Two gunners
went down with the plane which tragically crashed in the Adriatic
Sea. The rest of the crew bailed out with four men evading
capture and four ending up in Stalag III.
