The commission to paint the name and nose art was
given at Bangor, Maine, by the replacement crew which ferried the ship to the UK
under ATC Movement Orders.
The crew was assigned to 491st BG and, after ETO modifications (that would have included he blister navigator's windows) at BAD 2, Warton, the aircraft was eventually assigned to 458th BG, where it remained throughout its service in 753rd BS as J4 D.

Pilot Richard Hoey presented his A-2 flight jacket to
the the Yankee Air Force museum in about 1982 and of course it is now lost due
to the massive fire that destroyed the museum a few years ago. Dick and I worked
together at Hydramatic Division in the (ironically) old Willow Run Bomber plant.
I spent the first 10 years of my career at that plant working with Dick as a
gage engineer. Dick put thirty years in at Hydramatic and then passed away in
the late 90's. I was thrilled to find your website and even more thrilled when I
saw the aircraft that I had heard so much about from my friend Dick Hoey.
