Shown with Capt Max C. Tenton, Squadron Bombardier of the 372nd BS, who received
a Silver Star while helping save this aircraft and crew after a 20mm round
entered the cockpit and exploded, killing the Pilot Lt John R. Sawyer outright,
seriously wounding the Co-Pilot and mortally wounding the Navigator on a mission
to Truk on 2 Jun 1944. The aircraft was repaired and flew several more missions
through June and July 1944.
