Came to grief at RAF Davidstow Moor, 9 Nov 42. From an eyewitness, who was part
of the airfields defense at this time, said he saw the B-24 landing but couldn`t
stop. It ran off the runway burying its nose wheel in boggy ground which caused
the aircraft to stand on its nose crushing the underside of the nose. The
fuselage then fell back onto the concrete perimeter track breaking the wing and
tail spars. The crew emerged shaken but uninjured. After they had left the
scene, a large bulldozer was brought to the site and pushed the unfortunate
aircraft off the track, where it stayed until 24 Nov 42, when a salvage team
dismantled it for spare parts.
