There were two SLICK CHICKs in the 449th
BG:
42-52110 - Original 449th A/C arrived 27 Oct 43 and assigned to Robert’s crew -
#50. Transferred to depot 22 Feb 44.
42-52165 - Arrival unknown (but after 22 Feb) - #50 lost with Robert’s crew 23
Apr 44 - MACR 4199
42-52110 received back from depot on 5
May 44 - #50 (flew as such 7 May) renumbered to #65 in 12 May renumbering. I
show last flight with 449th on 2 July 44, transferred back to depot. Judging by
lack of tail markings, the photo is probably 110 as the “Bar A” tail markings
were ordered 14 February and the Triangle and “3” 47th Wing markings were
ordered 16 March. Of course, the photo could be 165 at the depot prior to
transfer. The background could very well be the depot. Did 451st carry tail
markings in Jan/Feb time frame? No previous known photos of either SLICK CHICK.
