2nd Nose Art

The 449th books state there were two, but I had decided a while back that there
was only one SHIRLEY JEAN. The two nose arts would have played into the theory
of there being two, but it was primarily predicated on the Morrison crew being
shot down in SHIRLEY JEAN #1 on 28 Feb 45. However, the Morrison crew flew #72,
42-95225 on 28 Feb and made a precautionary landing at Zara and the aircraft
later returned. I knew 42-95397 was on the ferry list to Gioia on 29 Apr 45 and
I had continuity of s/n references since its arrival in June 44. 42-95397 was
flown overseas by the Cunningham crew and named for Cunningham’s girlfriend.
