First served in 98th BG / 345th BS with the name
SHANGHAI LIL before being sent to the Project 19 depot at Gura in Eritrea for repairs.
Name was changed, probably inadvertently, to
SHANGHI LIL (the "A" was dropped from "Shanghai") during repainting at Gura which also provided the
"ladies" (which adorned both sides of the nose) with "make-overs". SHANGHI LIL stopped in the 376th BG for a short time and received their #74 identification number, though there is no record of her flying combat with the 376th.
G. I. GINNIE (42-40657) would later carry the "74" number to Ploesti. SHANGHI LIL made its final home with the 343rd
BS and flew on the low level Ploesti mission by the Carl Looker crew without having received a
"Snow White" name (the number of airplanes exceeded the number of
"Snow White" names at this time). Lost to enemy action 24 Oct
43.
