Shown with my Father, 1Lt Samuel D. Scorza
(Navigator - standing far left), 5 Jun 44, after a raid on Stella/Plage, France. This was the crew's last mission together. On the March 26th raid to Bonnieres, France, air pressure on take-off forced a hatch open that hit my father on the head. He finished the mission, but was hospitalized for a concussion for a few days upon their return. While he was in the hospital, the rest of the crew flew two missions with a replacement navigator. So, while this was the crew's 30th and final mission, my father flew on June 6th and 7th in support of the Normandy landings on D-Day and D-Day +1. Some of the gunners also flew these missions.
Not Shown: SSgt Chester Carlstrum (Tail Gunner), KIA 27 May 44 in a mid-air collision north of
Cromer with B-24 #159.
