Taken at Metfield. Group's first assembly ship, salvaged in Aug '44. The overall yellow with red polka dots and trim took many man hours, and replacement aircraft for this duty were less exotically decorated. (USAAF)

389th BG - Primary Pilots: Jack Dieterle, Lt. Walsh. Arrived overseas
16 Jun 43 and flew first combat mission 9 Jul 43. Flew to Ploesti on 1 Aug
43 and served in the 389th BG until about May 44, racking up
a total of 52 combat missions. Group switched over to B-24 H's & J's by the spring of 1944.
No SC, B- from Jul '43 through Dec '43
No SC, B+ from Dec '43 through Mar '44
SC:
RR, B+ from Mar '44 through May '44
Transferred to the 491st Bomb Group 15 May 44.
