LEWIS L. WHITE |
Contributor - Dave White
Shown above with Bob Marker (Tail Gunner). My Father,
Navigator Lewis
White (then Louis Weinberg), was also on HARE POWER (41-29325) with Pilot Jim
Formby. He recalled the
time when a General came to review the field, saw the nose art, and said "Put
pants on that lady"!
Research Team Comments: Nothing in evidence suggests this to be a J-15-CF. If it were, the aircraft would have to be OD vice NMF. The only explanation to this possible mis-ID is that the aircraft in question was field stripped. However, there is no evidence provided by the contributor that suggests this either. J-15- CF were normally painted Olive Drab and there are extremely rare instances of field stripping in the 15thAF which may indicate that the serial number (42-99748) is incorrect for the pictured plane. If not field stripped, NOT a J-CO and not a Ford, or later DT. If factory NMF, then H/J CF; J-55-70-CF; or G/J- NT.
