KAY BAR took her name from her Radio Call Letter (RCL K). Replacement ship in 389th BG / 564th BS (K). Between 18-22 Mar 44 (in readiness for the arrival of the HSH DT H2X PFF aircraft with which 564th BS became exclusively equipped), KAY BAR was transferred to 44th BG / 67th BS (NB K) to fill the gap left by the loss of 42-7549. Transferred to 44th BG / 66th BS (QK V+) from 10 Sep 44, (QK N+) from 7 Oct 44, then (QK G+) in Mar 45. Lost during the low level supply mission 24 Mar 45.
