Crash-landed at Veltem or Heultje, near Westerlo, about 25 miles north east of
Brussels - ran into mechanical trouble and left the formation, heading for
Brussels. Due to poor visibility, missed the field and, running short of fuel,
salvoed its bombs. The blast blew out the windows in the plane and damaged the
elevator. The pilot tried to land in a grassy meadow but the landing gear
collapsed and split the plane, rendering it a complete washout.
