Info Contributor - David
Burns
Piloted by my Uncle, Robert W. Groves, who flew 47 missions
(most of them in The HARRY S. TRUMAN / FORM 1-A), during 1945. After asking my Uncle what the tail numbers were on his
"Bird" (even though he had difficulty speaking), with
great forcefulness, he uttered "229"!

When the "Jolly Rogers" Liberator "229" broke the
world's record for combat missions flown by any Consolidated B-24, it was
repainted (with no "controversial" artwork), still honoring President
Truman.
