From my Step Father, Herman F. Fuhrman (Flight
Engineer): "Named after we flew her (27 Mar 44) from Nebraska to Italy (Torretta) and found
a fuel leak in one of the rubberized fuel cells. The fuel cell had to be
replaced three times and in the process, FUEL-CELL FANNY was
given her name. A local Italian painter created the nose-art before our first
mission." 1st crew:
