We took delivery of FLOOGIE! at Topeka, KS in Jun 43 and flew her to China arriving in mid August.
In Dec 43, we exchanged her for FLOOGIE! JR (42-73444)
which we bailed out of on our final mission 22 Jul 44. On that mission I was accompanied by Major Horace S. Carswell for his first orientation flight having newly arrived for assignment as 374th Sq.
Operations Officer. He was later KIA and awarded the Medal of honor posthumously. Carswell
AFB, TX was named after him.
