Byrne, Jr. (later Capt.),
completed 51 missions and received a Purple Heart in a raid on marshaling yards
in Italy 21 Jul 44 and a Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission in Rumania 16
Aug 44.

The third DOPEY painted by Amos Nicholson. The airplane carried the name JOLLY
ROGER on the right side of the nose along with a triangular shaped pirate flag.

Along with ARKANSAS TRAVELER, I painted two versions of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN
DWARFS, PRINCE CHARMING, and all "Seven Dwarfs" (three versions of
DOPEY) on B24-Ds
in the Libyan desert in Africa 1942-43. I never signed them and never got
credit.
