Walt Disney Character - "Snow White Theme" - From Amos Nicholson (2001)
Info Contributor - Bill
Whitney
This is the second DOPEY painted by Amos Nicholson who was also the Crew
Chief of this aircraft. It differs from his first DOPEY in being more of a frontal view
(vs. Facing Forward) and its name is in multicolored simple letters (vs. Old English style). The aircraft had a short combat
career from 28 Apr - 9 Jun 43. It was badly shot up coming away from its target at Catania, Sicily 9
Jun 43 and crash-landed at Malta. It never flew again. Pilot Clarence Gooden flew DOPEY
on each of its twelve missions.

Along with ARKANSAS TRAVELER, I painted two versions of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN
DWARFS, PRINCE CHARMING, and all "Seven Dwarfs" (three versions of
DOPEY) on B24-Ds
in the Libyan desert in Africa 1942-43. I never signed them and never got
credit.
