Starboard (Right) Side - AKA "Spare Parts"

The name CONSOLIDATED MESS was on the
starboard side. It is also said to have been named SPARE PARTS. However,
according to a report dated 22 Feb 44 to 2nd Bomb Div., this plane had a picture
of an Indian Head but no name. Presumably, this was on the port side. Seriously
damaged on the 6 Mar 44 mission to Berlin-Genshagen and did not return to combat
until 22 Mar 44. Last trace with 453rd BG: 20 Jun 44. It is recorded as salvaged
by 4 SAD on 24 Jun 44 but it was subsequently assigned to secret operations over
Norway and was shot down by "friendly" fire over Murmansk, USSR, in
Sep 44.
