Traces that remain under the fresh paintwork
between CLAY and PIDGEON of an apostrophe and of an "S" as a smaller letter
are visible. I quote from a recent e-mail from Keith Pierce, whose father
flew no less than 26 missions in CLAY PIDGEON: "I remember Dad relating a
story about the removal of the "S" to make her the CLAY PIDGEON, an apt name for a daylight bomber. Previous
pilot's name must have been Clay."
