Original S/N 44-39308 - Shown on Assembly Line
Contributor - Robert Livingstone
Info Contributor - Al Blue
Ten aircraft [44-39299 thru 44-39308] were serialized, on the factory floor
during production, as a carry-on from the last block of C-87s. There was a
disconnect between the Line and the Contract Office and the serial numbers were
put on in error. The records were never in error; the factory mistake was not
carried over into any official serial listing that I know of. These were
converted from bomber (in this case B-24J) components on the FW assembly line.
Waist window openings have been retained and doors are UP, not down as might be
expected.
Re-Serialized [44-52978 thru 44-52987]
