BOMBS AWAY was never in 753rd BS despite
what is shown on the MACR (6928) database. It was always in 754th BS, initially
as Z5 F (Dispersal # 9 - pilots inter alia: Hopkins and Newell) but towards the
end of Jun 44 the call letter was changed to U. The aircraft was interned in
Switzerland after landing at Payerne, Vaud canton, 12 Jul 44 with two damaged
engines and short of fuel. It was returned to BAD 1, Burtonwood, 1 Oct 45.
