The photo is one of a series that was taken during a public relations photo shoot. I have several others taken at the same time. The men are
posed and the personnel shown are not from Pilot John H. Payne's Crew. In fact, the men in the photo are from at least three different crews.
The original "Black Maria" was an automobile owned by the Pilot, John
H. Payne, who was KIA flying this ship when he was shot down over Naples Harbor 11 Jan 43.

The man holding a pipe (with it's stem pointed to a chart) is
Navigator/Bombardier (2nd or perhaps 1st) Lieutenant William O. Mally, my
Father. He was part of the Andrew Moore crew which ferried the “HALPRO” BLUE
GOOSE (41-11597) to the Middle East.
