Col. Fred Sparrevohn
USAF (Ret.) (Pilot)
One day when I returned from a bombing
mission over Germany, the Crew Chief met me at the airplane and said “Sir, your
airplane does not have a name. Would you like to name it?” I was a bit flustered
and responded “That’s a $64 question!” (This at the time was a popular game
show). “I will get back to you later.” That night I tried to think of names like
my wife, my mother, my dog, etc. The next time I came out to the airplane, she
was named!
These pictures were taken the day my
Navigator and I finished our thirty missions. Incidentally, the airplane was
shot down on its very next mission, before the pictures were even developed!
