First mission: 26 Aug 44; crash-landed in France on
its 4th mission (5 Sep 44 - Karlsruhe) by 2/Lt. Byron R Johnson (786th BS) on
his first mission. The aircraft was salvaged. Lt Johnson went on to fly more
missions until 6 Feb 45 when he bailed out of 42-110188 U8 P (a former 93BG G-H
lead ship) after it was hit by flak on return from a mission to Magdeburg. He
evaded capture for 12 days but was caught in the Netherlands and finished the
war as a POW.
